Court restrains APC caretaker chair, Buni from inaugurating factional Bauchi exco

Monday, December 06, 2021

A Bauchi State High Court has issued an interim order restraining the Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from inaugurating the recently elected Hon Babayo Aliyu Misau-led executive members in the state.

A copy of the interim injunction issued Friday last week by the court made available to journalists in Bauchi at the weekend restrained Buni, who is also Governor of Yobe State; Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu; and former Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara; and their privies, agents, cohorts and representatives in whatever capacity from administering the oath of office on Misau and his backroom ‘recognition’ as Bauchi APC leaders.

The court further ordered Misau and others elected as party executive members recently in the state to stop “parading themselves in whatsoever manners or means and or acting in whatever capacities or names called as Bauchi State executive officers of APC pending the hearing of the substantive suit filed”.

The court ordered that the interim injunction shall subsist pending the determination of the suit brought before the court by the plaintiff, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed Sheriff.

It was reported that controversies have trailed the recent congresses of the opposition party in Bauchi State with two factions holding parallel congresses through which two different state executive members emerged for the party.

The factional congresses produced Hon Sanusi Aliyu Kunde, who is said to be loyal to Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Hon Misau, a loyalist to Adamu, with both laying claims to the leadership of the party in the state.

The plaintiff in the case in which the interim injunction was issued is believed to be a loyalist to Ambassador Tuggar.
